ChessLab Academy privacy notice
Last updated: 2 November 2026.
What we collect
You can use all of ChessLab Academy without an account, and then we don't ask for your name, email address or any other personal information. We do not use cookies, advertising or tracking scripts. ChessLab Pro is not on sale and no payment details are collected.
Optional accounts
If you choose to create an account, we collect your email address, used only to sign you in, and the progress you sync: lessons, puzzle progress, saved boards, opening repertoire and personal training data. We use them only to sign you in and keep your progress on your devices. We don't sell them, share them for marketing or send you newsletters.
- Where it's stored. Accounts and synced progress are stored with Supabase, our database provider, in its Canada (Central) region.
- Sign-in emails. Sign-in links are sent through Resend, an email delivery service, which processes your email address to deliver the message.
- Staying signed in. Your browser keeps a sign-in token in local storage so you stay signed in. It is not a tracking cookie.
- Deleting your account. You can delete your account and everything saved in it at any time from the Account window (Sign in, then Delete my account), or by emailing us. We keep account data only until you delete it.
What stays on your device
The chess engines run inside your browser, so your positions and games are analysed on your own computer or phone. Without an account, your lesson progress, puzzle progress, saved boards, opening repertoire, personal training data and settings (such as the voice and speed you chose) are kept in your browser's local storage on your device. They are not sent to us. Clearing your browser's site data deletes them, and we cannot recover them. If you sign in, this progress is also copied to your account (see above) so it syncs between your devices.
Hosting and visitor statistics
The website is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes the technical information every web request carries, such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested, to deliver and protect the site. From this, Cloudflare gives us aggregate statistics such as the number of visits and the countries they come from. We do not see who you are and we do not add any analytics or tracking code to the pages.
Outside services
- Lichess tablebase. On the analysis board, when a position has 7 pieces or fewer, ChessLab Academy asks the Lichess tablebase (tablebase.lichess.ovh) for the exact result. That request sends the position (as a FEN string) to Lichess, along with your IP address and the usual technical information of a web request. See the Lichess privacy policy.
- Spoken instructor. If you turn on the spoken instructor, your browser's own text-to-speech reads the lesson text aloud. Some browsers use online voices (for example, Chrome's "Google" voices), which send that lesson text to the browser maker to produce the audio. The text is chess instructions only. To keep speech on your device, choose a voice that isn't an online voice, or leave the instructor off and read the captions.
- Ko-fi. The Support link opens Ko-fi, a separate website (ko-fi.com) with its own privacy policy. ChessLab Academy does not receive any information when you click it. If you leave a tip, Ko-fi shares with us what you choose to provide there.
- AI coach. On this website the AI coach is not connected, so nothing is sent anywhere when you open it.
If you email hello@chesslabacademy.com, Cloudflare forwards your message to our mailbox (Gmail). We use your email address and message only to reply, and delete them when they are no longer needed.
